Governor Mutfwang Bid Farewell to Late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

In a statement yesterday by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Friday joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top government and military officials to bid farewell to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed A. Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5, 2024, after a brief illness.


President Tinubu, in his moving tribute, at the National Military Cemetery Abuja, described General Lagbaja’s appointment as one of his finest decisions, calling him a trusted ally who rendered impactful service in safeguarding Nigeria.


“Today, we lay to rest a General and Officer who epitomized the best of his profession. For me, he was a trusted adviser who dedicated his intellect to the service of this nation. As President and Commander-in-Chief, I worked closely with him, and his appointment remains one of my best decisions,” Tinubu remarked.


The President lauded the late General for his selflessness and commitment to peace and unity in Nigeria, emphasizing his crucial role in confronting the nation’s security challenges. He added that General Lagbaja’s legacies of justice, fairness, empathy, and compassion will continue to inspire the nation.


In his words, “General Lagbaja had a clear vision of the military’s role in ensuring national security and exhibited unwavering dedication in the fight against insecurity. His service to this nation was exemplary.”


Tinubu extended his condolences to the late General’s wife, children, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, praying for strength to bear the irreparable loss.


The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, also paid glowing tributes to General Lagbaja. They described him as a courageous soldier, a reputable leader, and a dependable colleague whose contributions to the nation’s security were remarkable.


“General Lagbaja’s tenure was marked by decisive action against banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities. He was a leader who led by example, inspiring those around him to achieve greatness. His passing has left an indelible void in the military and the nation,” they noted.


The funeral service and final interment were attended by an array of dignitaries, including Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima, Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Governors, members of the National Assembly, Federal Executive Council members, royal fathers, religious leaders, captains of industry, and other distinguished Nigerians.


The late General Lagbaja will be remembered for his unparalleled dedication to the service of Nigeria and his unwavering commitment to protecting its people.
