In a statement on Wednesday by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening border security in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in order to enhance the safety of Plateau citizens and Nigerians nationwide.
Governor Mutfwang, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel N. Jatau, made this commitment on Wednesday while hosting the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, and her team at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
Welcoming the NIS delegation, Governor Mutfwang said Plateau State remains a hospitable home for all Nigerians. He commended the Comptroller General for her remarkable service since assuming office and expressed confidence in her capacity to bring innovative solutions to Nigeria's border security challenges.
Governor Mutfwang stressed the importance of technology in border management and applauding the NIS's recent efforts in digital surveillance and control. “The deployment of advanced technology by the Nigeria Immigration Service in border management is a timely and essential initiative. In today’s world, driven by technology, effective border surveillance is crucial,” he stated.
In her remarks, the Comptroller General Kemi Nandap expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for the warm reception and explained that the NIS was in Plateau State for its 2024 annual conference. She noted that the conference, with the theme “Enhancing Border Security and Migration Management in a Globalized World: Challenges and Opportunities for Nigeria”, aims to critically review the NIS’s operations to identify areas for improvement.
She further extended her thanks to the people and government of Plateau State for their hospitality, nothing with satisfaction, the longstanding collaborative efforts between the NIS and Plateau State. "Our partnership with Plateau State is rooted in shared progress, and I am confident that this alliance will continue to thrive in the interest of national security," she remarked.
Comptroller General Nandap also outlined recent technological advancements within the NIS aimed at strengthening border safety. “Our primary focus remains on the safety of Nigerians and the integrity of our borders. Under the renewed hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NIS has integrated cutting-edge technologies essential for effective border management,” she added.
