In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has strongly condemned the brutal attack on mourners during a wake in honor of an 87-year-old woman in Ruwi B2 village, Bokkos Local Government Area.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Governor Mutfwang extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in such a gruesome and senseless manner.
He described the attack as barbaric, emphasizing that the perpetrators opened fire on defenseless mourners, an act that stands in stark contrast to the values of peace and humanity.
The Governor lamented that the incident occurred at a time when his administration has implemented a comprehensive security framework to curb violent attacks, particularly in rural communities. He reassured the people of Plateau State that his government remains resolute in strengthening security measures to safeguard lives and property.
Commending security agencies for their dedication and sacrifices, Governor Mutfwang urged them to intensify efforts in tracking down those responsible for the heinous act and ensuring they face the full wrath of the law.
In a related development, the Governor also condemned the murder of Alhaji Muhammad Adams Umar, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Barkin-Ladi LGA, and Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman of Barkin-Ladi LGA on Revenue Mobilization. Umar was killed by suspected gunmen in yet another unfortunate incident.
Governor Mutfwang extended his deepest sympathies to the families of all the victims and the affected communities. He prayed for divine strength and comfort for them and urged residents to remain vigilant, report any suspicious movements in their areas, and cooperate with security agencies to prevent further attacks.
