Governor Mutfwang Congratulates Prof. Chris Piwuna on His Emergence as ASSU National President.

In statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has extended his warm congratulations to Professor Chris Piwuna on his emergence as the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).


Governor Mutfwang in a congratulatory message described Prof. Piwuna’s election as a moment of immense pride for Plateau State and a testament to the state’s tradition of producing distinguished intellectuals.


He said as a renowned academic and consultant psychiatrist from the University of Jos, Prof. Piwuna’s elevation to the pinnacle of academic unionism reflects his unwavering commitment to education and service.


The Governor noted that Prof. Piwuna’s vast experience, intellectual depth, and long-standing dedication to the ideals of academic unionism have earned him national recognition and trust. He emphasized that his emergence as ASUU President at this pivotal moment in Nigeria’s educational landscape inspires hope for constructive engagement and meaningful reforms in the nation’s university system.


Governor Mutfwang commended Prof. Piwuna’s consistent display of capacity, integrity, and commitment to academic excellence and social justice. He expressed confidence that under his leadership, ASUU will be further strengthened to advocate for the rights of lecturers and push for critical improvements in tertiary education.


"Plateau State is proud of Professor Piwuna’s achievements and remains committed to supporting our sons and daughters who continue to excel nationally and globally," the Governor said.


He prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and clarity of purpose as Prof. Piwuna assumes the important responsibility of leading ASUU at the national level.


Governor Mutfwang also called on the academic community and stakeholders in the education sector to rally behind the new ASUU leadership in its quest to reposition Nigeria’s universities for greater relevance and global competitiveness.
