In a profound demonstration of stewardship, empathy, and moral leadership, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, joined family, friends, and dignitaries at the solemn funeral service of the late Mrs. Habibatu Titus Alams, wife of Rt. Hon. Titus Alams, Special Adviser on Labour Relations.
In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, The service, held at COCIN Church, Rayfield, Jos, transcended a moment of mourning, becoming a spiritual gathering where the governor called on the people of Plateau to embrace righteousness, unity, and a recommitment to values that uplift society.
Delivering his heartfelt tribute, Governor Mutfwang described the late Mrs. Alams as a virtuous woman, a devoted mother, a faithful wife, and a shining example of Christian character. While consoling the bereaved family, he emphasized the importance of living a meaningful life anchored in values that leave a legacy for others to follow.
“We must thank God for the life she lived and pray for the grace to emulate her,” the governor said solemnly. “When all is said and done, may our own day of departure be one of rejoicing.”
He lamented the growing disconnect between religious devotion and moral conduct in society, particularly within Plateau State. Decrying what he described as a troubling normalization of religious hypocrisy, the governor challenged Christians to embody the faith they profess.
“Many of us have perfected how to mix religion with misbehaving,” he observed. “May the spirit of brotherliness and solidarity engulf us on the Plateau, that those who are strong may strengthen the weak, and those who have may bless those in need. I believe this spirit still lives among us.”
Governor Mutfwang emphasized the essence of stewardship, not only as a public servant but also as a moral compass, standing with the people in moments of grief, fostering unity, and nurturing a shared sense of humanity.
In his remarks, the bereaved husband, Rt. Hon. Titus Alams, described his late wife as “an accountant with a difference.” He recalled her parting counsel to the family: to love one another, forgive freely, and keep their eyes fixed on God. He expressed gratitude for the comforting presence of God and the overwhelming support from the Plateau community.
“The death of my wife brought unity,” Hon. Alams remarked. “Members of all political parties came; the entire Plateau stood with me. Let this be the unity that His Excellency keeps preaching.”
The funeral was attended by top government officials, lawmakers, religious leaders, political figures, and sympathizers from across the state, all united in paying their final respects and showing solidarity with the Alams family.
