In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has paid a solidarity visit to the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Damishi Sango, to commiserate with him over the recent tragic attack on his residence in Danwal, Riyom Local Government Area, which claimed one life and left a security personnel critically injured.

Governor Mutfwang, accompanied by senior government officials, described the incident as unfortunate and deeply saddening. He reiterated the commitment of his administration to the security and safety of all communities across the state.

Speaking during the visit, Governor Mutfwang said: “We are here this morning to visit and sympathize with you over the tragic incident that occurred a few days ago. This unprovoked attack on your home and this peaceful community is truly unfortunate. You have chosen to live here among your people, and your presence has been a source of comfort and strength.

"You could have chosen to reside in more secluded areas like Rayfield or the Old GRA, but you opted to stay here in Danwal. That act of humility and patriotism is not lost on your people, they cherish it."

The Governor expressed shock that the attack occurred while the former Minister and one-time Plateau State PDP Chairman was at home, but thanked God for divine intervention that prevented further loss of life and destruction.

“I want to reassure you, and indeed the entire community of Danwal and Ganawuri, that government is fully committed to your safety. We will continue to do all within our power to protect our communities, no matter how tough the times are.

“We recognize that we are operating in very difficult and dangerous times, and while the challenges may be daunting, we will not relent. Our resolve is firm: peace must return and be sustained across the state.”

Governor Mutfwang further disclosed that the government is making urgent plans to rehabilitate the road leading to the area and revive the local police post for more effective security response.

In his response, Hon. Damishi Sango thanked the Governor for his concern and solidarity. He noted that Governor Mutfwang was among the first to reach out through the phone immediately after the attack and has now followed up with a personal visit to assess the situation firsthand.

Sango expressed deep sorrow over the death of his nephew’s wife in the incident and revealed that the police officer on duty, who sustained severe injuries, is currently receiving treatment. He prayed for God’s intervention in overcoming the security challenges facing not just Plateau State but Nigeria as a whole.

Also speaking, the Attah Aten of Ganawuri, His Royal Highness Yakubu Chaimang, appreciated the Governor for his visit and empathy. He noted that Danwal remains a security flashpoint due to the surrounding hills that attract nomadic elements and appealed for special government intervention in the area.
