Many years later, the people in Plateau State will still be talking and singing what will be termed "The Mutfwang Era", a time when governance has been executed with all necessary transparency and power fully given to the people, a major pillar of democracy.
Governor Caleb Mutwang assumed office and in less than one year, He surprised the people of the State when he declared that his administration would clear gratuities of pensioners dating back to 1985, that is a whopping four decades when most of the Plateau youths were not born. To us, it was a surprise because we were wondering where he was going to get the funds from. Today is history that Caleb Mutfwang not only promised, He has fulfilled it and the old pensioners are smiling home.
Some months ago, I was at the Mutfwang fertilizer distribution unit in my local government, and for the first time in my experience, fertilizers were distributed to the lucky beneficiaries with the utmost transparency irrespective of party affiliation. A friend of mine, been from opposition, confessed to me that he will reconsider his action in 2027 and vote for competence, not for political party. He benefitted from the Mutfwang kind gesture of fertilizer despite being a strong opposition member.
Today, the corruption that long engraved the state civil service has been stopped. For the first time since the return of democracy, massive recruitment is ongoing in all the Plateau State tertiary institutions and other parastatals in the most transparent process ever obtained before. A large number of Plateau youths will soon have an opportunity to join the State Civil Service after many years of deceit, with many controversial and unsuccessful attempts.
Indeed, the scripture is clear, that when "the righteous are in power, the people rejoice".
